Ingredients
- ¼ cup vegetable oil
- ¾ cup chopped yellow onion (½ large onion)
- ½ tbsp minced garlic (2 cloves)
- ½ cup (5oz) tomato paste
- ½ cup cider vinegar
- ½ cup honey
- ¼ cup Worcestershire sauce
- ½ cup Dijon mustard
- ¼ cup soy sauce
- ½ cup (4oz) hoisin sauce
- 1 tbsp chili powder
- ½ tbsp ground cumin
- ¼ tbsp crushed red pepper flakes
Recipe
- Heat oil in a large saucepan over low heat. Add onions and cook 10–15 minutes until translucent but not browned. Add garlic and cook 1 more minute.
- Add tomato paste, vinegar, honey, Worcestershire, mustard, soy sauce, hoisin, chili powder, cumin, and pepper flakes.
- Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 30 minutes.
- Use immediately or transfer to a container and refrigerate for up to several weeks.
